Muscles of Inspiration #2 Flashcards
Neck, Upper arm & shoulder, Back
What are the accessory muscles of the neck?
- Sternocleodomastoid
- Scalenus
What does the sternocleiodomastoid do?
Elevates the sternum and the rib cage
What does the Scalenus do?
- Elevates the ribs
- 3 parts: anterior, middle, posterior
- This muscle also provides stability for the head and helps with rotation, but that won’t be on the test.
Diagrams for the neck muscles
A - Sternocleidomastoid
B - Scalenus Anterior
C - Scalenus Posterior
D - Scalenus Middle
What are the muscles of the upper arm and shoulder?
A - Pectoralis major
B - Pectoralis minor
C - Serratus anterior
What does the Pectoralis major do?
- Elevates sternum and rib cage
What does the Pectoralis minor do?
- With shoulder fixed, elevates ribs
What does the Serratus anterior do?
- Elevates ribs
What are the back muscles of inspiration?
A - Levator scapulae
B - Rhomboideus major
C - Rhomboideus minor
D - Trapezius
What does the Levator scapulae do?
- Elevates the scapula and provides neck support
What does the Rhomboideus major and minor do?
- Stabilizes shoulder girdle
What does the Trapezius do?
- Elongates the neck and helps with head control
