Muscles Of Forearm Flashcards
Palmaris Longus
Innervates: median nerve
Origin: medial numeral epicondyle
Inserts: palmar aponeurosis and flexor retinaculum
Action: flexion of hand
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Innervation: median nerve
Origin: medial humeral epicondyle, ulnar coronoid process, middle of anterior radius
Inserts: 4 tendons that split to allow passages of flexor digitorum profundus tendons and insert on the sides of the middle phalanx of each finger
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Innervation: ulnar nerve
Origin: medial humeral epicondyle, proximal posterior ulna
Inserts: pisiform, hamate, anterior base of 5th metacarpal
Action: flexion and adduction of hand
Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus
Innervation: radial nerve
Origin: lateral humeral epicondyle and lateral humeral supracondylar ridge
Inserts: posterior base of 2nd metacarpal
Action: extension and abduction of wrist
Flexor Carpi Radialis
Innervation: median nerve
Origin: medial humoral epicondyle
Inserts: anterior bases of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals
Action: flexion and abduction of hand
Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis
Innervation: deep radial nerve
Origin: lateral humeral epicondyle
Insertion: posterior base of 3rd metacarpal
Action: extension and abduction of wrist
Extensor Digitorum
Innervation: radial nerve
Origin: lateral humeral epicondyle
Inserts: posterior 2nd-5th middle and distal phalanges
Action: extends 2nd-5th middle and distal phalanges and extends 2nd-5th proximal phalanges and hand by continued action
Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
Innervation: radial nerve
Origin: lateral humeral epicondyle and proximal posterior ulna
Inserts: posterior base of 5th metacarpal
Action: extension and adduction of hand
