muscles of arm Flashcards
biceps brachii origin
short head: tip of coracoid process of scapula
long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
four armmuscles
three flexors: biceps brachii, coracobrachialis, brachialis: in anterior compartment and supplied by musculocutaneous nerve
one extensor: triceps brachii: posterior compartment, radial nerve
small triangular muscle on posterior aspect of elbow: anconeus
biceps brachii insertion
tuberosity of radius and fascia of forearm via bicipital aponeurosis
biceps brachi innervation
musculocutaneous nerve
C5, C6
biceps brachii main actions
supinates forearm and when it is supinated, flexdes elbow joint
flexes shoulder joint, short head resists dislocation of shoulder
brachialis origin
distal half of anterior surface of humerus
brachialis insertion
coronoid process and uberosit of ulna
brachialis innervation
musculocutaneous nerve
C5, C6
brachialis main actions
flexes elbow joint in all positions
coracobrachialis origin
tip of coracoid process of scapula
coracobrachialis insertion
middle third of medial surface of humerus
coracobrachialis innervation
musculocutaneous nerve
C5, C6, C7
coracobrachialis ction
helps flex and adduct shoulder joint, resists dislocation of shoulder
triceps brachii origin
long head: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
lateral head: posterior surface of humerus, superior to radial groove
medial head: posterior surface of humerus, inferior to radial groove
triceps brachii insertion
proximal end of olecranon of ulna and fascia of forearm
triceps brachii innervation
radial nerve
C6, C7, C8
triceps brachii action
chief extensor of elbow joint
long head extends shoulde joint nd resists dislocation of humerus
especially impt during abduction
anconeus origin
lateral epicondyle of humerus
anconeus insertion
lateral surface of olecranon and superior part of posterior surface of ulna
anconeus innervation
radial nerve
C7, C8, T1
anconeus main actions
assists triceps in extending elbow joint; stabilizes elbow joint; abducts ulna during pronation
transverse humeral ligament
broad band that passes from less to greater tubercle of humerus and converts intertubercular groove into canal for tendon of long head of biceps
bicipital aponeurosis
runs from biceps tendon across cubital fossa and merges with ntebrachial (deep) fascia, covering flexor muscles in medial side of forearm
what type of muscle is brachialis
fusiform
additional function of brachialis
when elbow is extended slowly, steadies movement by slowly relaxing
subtendinous olecranon bursa
between triceps tendon and olecranon, reduces friction
