Anterior-Lateral Compartment of Thigh
- iliopsoas
- quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius)
- sartorius
Movement: extension of leg at knee; hip flexion

NERVE: L1-L3; femoral nerve
MOVEMENT: hip flexion

quadriceps femoris muscle
rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius
NERVE: Femoral
MOVEMENT:
- knee extension
- hip flexion (rectus femoris only!)

sartorius muscle
NERVE: femoral
MOVEMENT:
- Flexion, abduction, and lateral rotation of hip
- Flexion of knee

Medial Compartment of Thigh
- pectineus
- adductor longus
- adductor brevis
- adductor magnus
- obterator externus
- gracilis
**Movement: **adductors of hip (except obterator externus–lateral rotation of hip)
pectineus
NERVE: femoral (L2-L4), obturator (L2-L4)
MOVEMENT: adducts the hip

adductor longus
NERVE: obturator nerve (L2-L4)
MOVEMENT: adducts the hip

adductor brevis
NERVE: obturator nerve (L2-L4)
MOVEMENT: adducts the hip

adductor magnus
NERVE: obturator nerve
MOVEMENT: adducts the hip

obturator externus
NERVE: obturator nerve (L2-L4)
MOVEMENT: lateral rotation of hip

gracilis
NERVE: obturator nerve (L2-L4)
MOVEMENT: adducts the hip

Posterior Compartment of Thigh
- biceps femoris (short head, long head)
- semimembranosus
- semitendinosus
