Muscles Flashcards
Cardiac Muscle - Appearance, Distribution and nervous control.
Appearance - Striated (banded), they Branch, They have intercalated discs that run across the myofibrils (important in synchronising electrical conduction and contraction in heart muscle) and they are Uninucleate.
Distribution - Found only in the wall of the heart.
Nervous control - Myogenic and involuntary control.
Smooth muscle - Appearance, Distribution and nervous control.
Appearance - Elongated spindle shaped cells, Not striated, Single central nucleus in each, Discrete cells
Distribution - Present in the iris and ciliary body of the eye, and in the walls of tubular organs
Nervous control - Involuntary
Skeletal muscle - Appearance, Distribution and nervous control.
Appearance - Striated and MULTInucleate
Distribution - Attached by tendons to bones
Nervous control - Voluntary
Skeletal muscle contains the Sarcomere, I band, H zone, A band, Z line, M line, Myosin and Actin filaments etc
Different to cardiac muscle as they are multinucleate whereas cardiac muscle is uninucleate.
