Insertion: olcrenon process of ulna
Action: extends elbow
Biceps brachii
Origin: coracoid process of scapula, tuberosity above glenoid fossa of scapula.
Insertion: radial tuberosity
Action: flexes elbow and rotates hand laterally
Brachialis
Origin: anterior shaft of humerous
Insertion: coronoid process of ulna
Action: flexes elbow
Brachioradialis
Origin: distal lateral end of humerous
Insertion: styloid process of humerous
Action: flexes elbow
Flexor carpi radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerous
Insertion: base of 2nd & 3rd metacarpal
Action: flexes wrist & abducts hand
Frontalis
Origin: aporneurosis between frontalis & occipitalis
Insertion: skin of eyebrow
Action: wrinkles forehead & moves scalp
Orbicularis oculi
Origin: frontal & maxillary bones
Insertion: tissue of eyelid
Action: closes eye
Orbicularis oris
Origin: muscles near the mouth
Insertion: skin of central lip
Action: closes mouth
Masseter
Origin: zygomatic arch
Insertion: lateral surface of mandible
Action: elevates mandible (closes mouth)
Platysma
Origin: fascia in upper chest
Insertion: lower border of mandible
Action: draws angle of jaw downward as in pouting
Buccinator
Origin: maxilla & mandible
Insertion: orbicularis oris muscle
Action: compresses cheek inward as in blowing air
Temporalis
Origin: temporal bone
Insertion: coronoid process and ramus of mandible
Action: elevates mandible and moves it side to side
Sternocleidomastoid
Origin: sternum & clavicle
Insertion: mastoid process of temporal bone
Action: pulls headbto one side, flexes neck and elevates sternum
Trapezius
Origin: occipital bone & spines of cervical and thoracic vertebrae
Insertion: clavicle, spine, and acromion procecess of the scapula
Action: rotates the scapula, various fibers raise the scapula, pulls scapula medially, or pull scapula and shoulder downward
Deltoid
Origin: acromion process of scapula, spine of scapula, clavicle
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerous
Action: abducts, extends and flexes the arm
Latissimus dorsi
Origin: spines of sacral, lumbar and lower thoracic vertebrae
Insertion: intertubercular groove of humerous
Action: retracts shoulder, extends, adducts and rotates arm medially
Levator scapulae
Origin: transverse process of cervicle vertibrae
Insertation: medial margin of scapula
Action: elevates the scapula
Teres major
Origin: lateral border of the scapula
Insertion: intertubercular groove of humerous
Action: extends, adducts and rotates arm medially
Teres minor
Origin: lateral border of scapula
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerous
Action: rotates arm laterally
Infraspinatus
Origin: posterior surface of scapula below spine
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerous
Action: rotates arm laterally
Supraspinatus
Origin: posterior surface of scapula above spine
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerous
Action: abducts the arm
Subscapularis
Origin: anterior surface of scapula
Insertion: lesser tubercle of humerous
Action: rotates arm medially
Rhomboid major
Origin: spines of upper thoracic vertebrae
Insertion: medial border of scapula
Action: rectracts, elevates, and rotates scapula
Pectoralis major
Origin: clavicle, sternum, costal cartilages
Insertion: intertubuclar groove of humerous
Action: adducts, flexes and rotates arm medially
