Muscle tissue Flashcards
1
Q
smooth tissue
A
- individual spindle shaped cells that contract rhythmically but less powerfully than skeletal muscle
- in the skin, the walls of blood vessels, and digestive / respiratory tracts
- involuntary muscle
- unstriped muscle
2
Q
skeletal muscle
A
- attached to bones and moves the skeleton
- has bands of long cells called fibres
- can contract powerfully but tire easily
- voluntary muscle
- striped - because of the fibres
3
Q
cardiac muscle
A
- only in heart
- striped but without fibres
- contract rythmically and don’t tire
- can modify their contraction
