Centrioles Flashcards
1
Q
Centrioles - function
A
- create spindle during cell division
- which separate chromosomes - creates microtubules
- give cell shape and support
although plant cells do not have centrioles they can still produce spindle and microtubules
2
Q
Centrioles - structure
A
- situated in the centrasom
- part of the cytoplasm
- outside the nucleus - contains two empty cylinders at a right angle to
each other - each cylinder includes nine set of microtubules
which are set in a circle - during cell division centrioles duplicate
themselves
- each new cell has a pair of centrioles
