Muscle Tissue Flashcards
what is muscle tissue
-can contract
-provide movement
-actin and myosin help generate movement via contractile proteins
functions of muscle tissue
-body movement
-posture
-regulating organ volume
-moving substances through the body
-producing heat
-contraction MAIN
what is the muscle tissue composed of
cell= muscle fibers
-a bundle of muscle fibers - muscle fascicle
-cell plasma membrane = sarcolemma
SHAPED LIKE A TUBE - LIKE MARKER
there are two types of contractile units
-single cell
-multicell
what are single cell contractile units composed of
-Myoepithelial cells
- secrete from acinar units
-pericytes
-cells like smooth muscles that surround blood vessels
-flat cells that are on the outside
myofibroblasts
- secretes collagen for tissue repair (smooth muscle - myofibroblast - fibroblast)
-purpleish
what are multicell contractile units composed of
skeletal muscles
-movement of skeleton, tongue, and eye
-striated voluntary
smooth muscles
-visceral
-non-striated involuntary (outside vessel has pericyte then BM then endothelial cell)
cardiac muscles
-heart
-striated involuntary
what are myoepithelial cells
known as basket cells
secrete from glandular units
BM-Myoepithelial cell - epithelial cell (outside in)
-middle cells
what are skeletal muscle cells
- function for the movement of
the skeleton
-long cylindrical non branching
-multi nucleated - with nuclei in the periphery
-cross striations - light and dark bands (look like salmon)
-can increase in size - hypertrophy but not number hyperplasia
Morphological descriptions - STRIATED VOLUNTARY
What is connective tissue composed of
- found in skeletal muscle cells
ENDOmysium - fibers surrounding EACH INDIVIDUAL fiber or cell
PERImysium- fibers surrounding a BUNDLE of fibers known as a fascicle
EPImysium- outer most layer that surrounds the ENTIRE muscle and fascicles with deep fascia and tendons
(the fibers look like big dots with with white around them with purple nuclei on the periphery)
What is the cardiac muscle like
- autorhythmicity
-vascular
-heart
-short, cylindrical , branching
-box cart central nucleus
-intercalated dics
-striations
–can increase in size - hypertrophy but not number hyperplasia
-found in myocardium of heart
morph
STRAITED INVOLUNTARY
in the cross section they have flat IN PHERH AND blobs of nuclei IN MIDDLE
What is the smooth muscle like
-continuous contractions of low force
-shortest and non branching
-oval nucleus in the center
-NO STRIATIONS
-CAN increase in size - hypertrophy AND number hyperplasia
-viscera
found in walls of hollow organs EXCEPT HEART
morph
NON STRAITED INVOLUNTARY
DENSELY PACKED
Why will there be nervous tissue between two layers of smooth muscle?
SINGAL PERISTALSIS MUSCLE CONTRACTION
1ST PIC
NO STRIATIONS
YOU CAN SEE LITTLE BREAKS SO THATS ONE MUSCLE CELL NUCLIE IN THE MIDDLE
2ND
STRAITIONS
SOME HAVE 2 NUCLEI TOGETHER
INTERCALTING DISCS
STRIATED INVOLUNTARY
3RD
CROSS SECTIONS NO STRIATIONS
BOX CART NUCLIE IN THE MIDDLE
