Muscle Repair Flashcards
1
Q
Can skeletal striated muscle fibres divide?
A
No
2
Q
From what cell are muscle fibres derived?
A
Satellite cells
3
Q
Where are satellite cells located?
A
In the basement membrane of muscle fibres
4
Q
In what state of satellite cells usually?
A
A state of quiescence
5
Q
How does muscle repair occur?
A
Under stress or damage satellite cells can become active and undergo mitotic proliferation. Daughter cells differentiate inti myoblasts that either fuse together to form new fibres or can fused with stressed or damaged muscle fibres to reinforce and repair them.
6
Q
Hypertrophy of existing muscle fibres is mediated by which cell?
A
Satellite cells
