Muscle & Nervous Tissue Flashcards
Is Muscle Tissue at CT
Yes
What are the 3 types of MT?
Skeletal. Cardiac. Smooth Muscle
Skeletal Muscle is what?
striated (dark + light bands). Voluntary. Attaches to bones
Which if the MT ‘s are voluntary?
Skeletal only
Cardiac Muscle is what?
Striated. Involuntary. Performs the pumping action of heart
Smooth Muscle is what?
Not striated. Not voluntary. Uses peristalsis. Located in hollows of organs such as blood vessels and resp + gastro tracts
What are the 2 types of Nervous Tissue cells?
Neurons + Neuroglia
What is the functional unit of the nervous system called?
Neuron
What are the 3 main parts to a neuron?
Cell body. Axon. Dendrite.
What does the axon do?
transmits nerve impuse
What does the dendrite do?
receives action potential
What is the role of the Neuroglia?
Nourish and support nerve cells. Don’t transmit action potential
What is the stroma?
Stroma is the part of a tissue or organ with a structural or connective role. It is made up of all the parts without specific functions of the organ - for example, connective tissue, blood vessels, ducts, etc.
What is Extracellular matrix made up of?
primarily composed of ground substance - a porous, hydrated gel, made mainly from proteoglycan aggregates - and connective tissue fibers
What is the parenchyma? How is this different than Stroma?
The parenchyma is the functional parts of an organ, or of a structure such as a tumour in the body. This is in contrast to the stroma, which refers to the structural tissue of organs or of structures, namely, the connective tissues
