Muscle Movements (Shoulder) Flashcards
Pectoralis Major
Flexion, extension, adduction, internal rotation
Pectoralis Minor
Depresses shoulder girdle, abducts scapula, elevates the ribs up during forced inspiration
Deltoid (Anterior)
Flexion and medial rotation of humerus at the shoulder
Deltoid (Middle)
Abducts humerus at the shoulder (as in upward flap)
Deltoid (posterior)
Extension and lateral rotation of humerus at the shoulder
Latissimus dorsi
Extension, adduction, horizontal abduction, medially rotates arm and shoulder, depresses scapula
Trapezius
Extends the head, elevates, depresses, adducts and stabilizes the scapula
Levator scapulae
Elevates the scapula, assists the trapezius
Serratus anterior
Pulls shoulder anteriorly to prevent winging out of shoulder blade
Rhomboid major and minor
Retract scapula (squaring shoulders), rotates glenoid cavity downwards (lowering arm against resistence), stabilize scapula
Supraspinatus
Abducts humerus (assists) (elevates the shoulder joint out to the side)
Infraspinatus
Externally rotates shoulder (lateral)
Teres minor
Externally rotates shoulder (lateral)
Subscapularis
Internally rotates shoulder (medial) (allows humerus to move freely during elevation of the arm)
