Muscle Movements Flashcards
Pec major
Adducts and medially rotates humerus, draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly,
Pec minor
Stabilizes scapula and draws it anteriorly and inferiorly towards thoracic wall.
Deltoid
Flexes and medially and laterally rotates arm, abducts and extends arm.
Rotator cuff muscles
Supraspinatus - assists deltoid in anduction of arm
Infraspinatus - lateral rotation of arm
Subscapularis - medially rotates arm - 50% of movement
Teres minor - lateral rotation of the am
Biceps
Flexion of elbow and fexion and abduction of shoulder, supination of radio ulnar joint..
Brachialis muscle
Flexes forearm
Coracobrachialis
Adducts arm, flexes arm, resists dislocation of shoulder.
Triceps brachii
Extends the forearm, adducts and extends the humerus
Brachioradialis
Flexion
Flexor capri radialis
Flexion and abduction at wrist
Flexor capri radialis
Flexion and abduction at wrist
Pronator teres/ Pronator quadratus
Pronator teres - pronates the elbow and flexes the elbow
Pronator quadratus - pronation of the forearm
Hamstrings
Extend the hip and flex the knee, innervated by sciatic nerve L4-S3
Quadriceps
Knee extension, rectus femoris is also involved in hip flexion
Gluteus maximus, medius, minimus;
Gluteus maximus: extension, antigravity muscle when getting up from seated position, external rotation
Gluteus medius: lateral rotation, abduction
Gluteus minimus: lateral rotation, abduction
