muscle fibre types Flashcards
1
Q
what are the three types of muscle fibres
A
slow oxidative
fast oxidative glycolytic
fast glycolytic
2
Q
slow oxidative fibres
A
- designed for aerobic exercise
- use oxygen
- produce a small amount of tension over a long period of time
- endurance athletes
- e.g. marathon runner
3
Q
fast oxidative glycolytic
A
- designed for anaerobic exercise
- produce a large amount of force over a long period of time
- fatigue easily
- produce less force than fast glycolytic
- e.g. 1500m running
4
Q
fast glycolytic
A
- designed for anaerobic exercise
- produce a large amount of force over a long period of time
- fatigue easily
- produce the greatest force
- 100m sprint
5
Q
what are muscle fibre types largely determined by
A
genetics
6
Q
slow oxidative fibre types recovery rates
A
- recovers quickly and will be available for recruitment in 90 seconds
7
Q
fast glycolytic muscle fibre types recovery rate
A
take a long time to recover
8
Q
training slow oxidative fibres
A
training can be done daily as fibre damage does not occur at this intensity
9
Q
training fast glycolytic muscle fibres
A
at least 48 hours should be left in between training
once used to exhaustion, they will take 4-10 days to recover
