High CK
Proximal weakness
Myalgia
Systemic symptoms
What is MND and which motor neurons are affected?
Only Motor neurons
UMN and LMN symptoms eg fasciculations, increased tone
rapid progression
Pseudobulbar
No Sensory
What is muscular dystrophy?
X linked genetic disease
Flawed dystrophin protein so damages and doesnt heal
normal at birth but delayed progression, and progressive weakenss
Wheelchair by teens
resp failure
High CK, Muscle biopsy
What is statin induced myopathy?
Asymptomatic rise in CK
Nocturnal cramps
Stops when statins stop
What is dermatomyositis
Raised CK
Abx against capillaries causing rashes
? CA LUNG
Responds to steroids
What is polymyositis
Tc against muscle
Raised CK
Responds to steroids
What is inclusion body myositis?
Normal CK
Proximal weakness
Weakness in hand and foot dorsiflexion
No response to steroids
What other symptoms occur when muscle weakness is caused by a brain tumour?
Headaches
Mood change
apathetic to hobbies
papilloedema
hemiparesis opposite to lesion side
Which nerve disease gives you a mixed picture of upper and lower motor neuron symptoms?
