Muscle Attachments Flashcards
pectoralis minor
coracoid process to 3rd, 4th, 5th ribs
serratus anterior (superior serration)
anteriorly; 1st and sometimes 2nd ribposteriorly; superior angle of scapulaFibres run parallel to ribs.
serratus anterior (inferior serrations)
anteriorly; Ribs T2-T9 run to medial border of scapular, and inferior angle.
Brachialis
Proximal; distal half of shaft of humerus. As high as distal attachment of deltoid muscle.Distal; Coronoid process on proximal end of ulna.
Extensor Digitorum
Proximal ; lateral epicondyle of humerus, intern muscular septa, antebrachial fascia.Distal ; dorsum of hand
Supinator
Proximal ; muscle spirals around the lateral side of radius to attach primarily to the dorsal surface of the ulna.Distal ; volar surface of the radius just distal to the tendon of the biceps brachii.
Biceps Brachii
Proximal ; long head tendon lies in bicipital groove and attaches to superior margin of glenoid cavity of the scapula. SHORT head ; coracoid process of scapulaDistal ; radial tuberosity.
Coracobrachialis
Proximal ; apex of coracoid processDistal ; medial surface of humerus. Just proximal to midpoint of humeral shaft.
Teres Major
Medially ; dorsum of scapula near its inferior angle.Laterally ; medial lip of the inter tubercular sulcus (grove) of the humerus.
Teres Minor (rotator cuff)
Medially ; upper 2/3 of dorsal surface of scapula, near axillary border.Laterally ; lowermost facet of greater tubercle of humerus.
Subscapularis (rotator cuff)
Medially ; subscapular fossaLaterally ; lesser tubercle on anterior aspect of humerus.
Pectoralis major
Proximal ; 3 parts, Clavicular part, sternum part, costal part (costal cartilages of ribs 1-6)Distal ; lateral lip of bicipital groove
Rhomboids
Rhomboid minor (top one) - medially ; attaches above to nuchal ligament & spinous processes C7 & T1. Laterally to medial scapular border (level with root of scapular spine.Rhomboid minor T2-T5 vertebra, and below to medial border of scapular.
Levator Scapulae
Transverse processes of C1-C4 to vertebral border of scapular between superior angle and root of spine.
external oblique
Origin : Sternum, external surfaces and inferior borders of lower eight ribs (5-12)Insertion : Pubis, linea alba via aponeurosis and the iliac crest
