Murmurs- Johns Flashcards
Systolic Murmur
Cresendo-Decresendo
Loudest at base
Radiates to carotids
Aortic Stenosis
Can lead to SAD
Syncope
Angina
Dyspnea
Holosytolic
Blowing murmur
Loudest at apex
Radiates towards axilla
Mitral Regurgitation
Associated symptoms:
Pulmonary edema
Which murmur do you get a water hammer pulse?
Aortic regurgitation
Super strong pulse, because they have high systolic pressure
What grade do you start feeling a thrill?
Grade 4
Diastolic murmur
best heard at the apex w/ patient in left lateral recumbent position
Low pitched (rumble)
Opening Snap is heard
Mitral stenosis
Which murmur has mid systolic click?
Mitral valve prolapse
What drugs are contraindicated in diastolic dysfunction?
ACE inhibitors!
Dilate arteries and veins
Decrease preload, and don’t want don’t do that for diastolic dysfunction!
Use Beta-blocker instead! To allow more time for ventricular filling
