Q

What is sensory memory

A

Where information from the senses is stored. Whichever sense is registered will match the way it is consequently held.

Q

What is Short term memory

A

Sensory information moves into the STM for temporary storage. Capacity increased through chunking.

Q

Weaknesses of MSM

A
  • Simplified description
  • Insignificant stimuli remembered
  • We can only assume LTM is unlimited
  • New LTM can be made without rehearsal

Q

HM

A

Hippocampus removed to relieve epilepsy- couldn’t form new ltm memories but could do well on STM tasks. Communication between LTM and STM was damaged.

Q

New LTM can be made without rehearsal

A

How much is processed is more important.
Craik and Tulving words processed more deeply were more likely to be recalled.
