What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?
An immunological and neurodegenerative condition which a person’s immune system attacks the myelin sheath surrounding the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve.
What are the signs and symptoms of MS?
- Visual deficits (double vision).
- Sensory disturbances.
- Urinary incontinence or retention.
- Muscle weakness.
- Gross and fine motor incoordination.
- Pain.
- Spasticity.
- Fatigue.
- Ataxia (degeneration disease of nervous system).
- Dysphagia.
- Vestibular dysfunction.
- Cognitive or emotional disturbances.
What are the four types of MS?
- Relapsing/remitting.
- Primary progressive.
- Secondary progressive.
- Relapsing progressive.
What is the relapsing/remitting MS?
Unpredictable relapses that last for varying periods.
What is the primary progressive MS?
Lack of distinct attacks, slow onset, progressively worsening.
What is the secondary progressive MS?
Relapsing remitting progressing to secondary progressive MS over time.
What is the relapsing progressive MS?
Gradual progression of disability from the onset of the disease and is accompanied by one or more relapses.
