What is COPD?
A
An overarching term that refers to a group of progressive lung conditions.
These lung conditions are characterised by airflow obstruction that interferes with normal breathing.

What are the 2 most prevalent conditions under the COPD umbrella?
A
- Emphysema.

What is Emphysema?
A
A lung condition that causes shortness of breath. The walls between the air sacs become damaged, destroying the walls of the air sacks and causing them to lose their shape.

What is Chronic Bronchitis?
A
Inflammation of the bronchi that causes the lining of the airways to thicken, and a build up of mucus to block the airways.

What are the signs and symptoms of COPD?
A
- Persistent chronic cough with increased mucus production.
- Dyspnea: difficulty breathing, especially with exertion.
- Wheezing, whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe.
- Chest tightness.
- Frequent respiratory infections.
- Fatigue.
