Multi-Sensory Processing Flashcards
What is multi-sensory processing?
Getting input from all senses
- Interaction
Not one at the same time, giving one mental representation
- Everyday life
Disturbed Synchonocity
When, for example, visual signal and auditory signal doesnt connet
- Poorly dubbed voices
- Voice dont match the face
McGurk Effect
- Audiovisual illusions
When sound and lip movement do not correspond - Conflicting with each other
- Influences what we are hearing
Ba vs Fa
Ventriloquist Illusion

- Stuffed animal talking
- That sound location from the tv is corresponding with what is visible on screen
Additional Flash Illusion

Rubber-hand Illusion
Simultaneuously stroking of real hand and rubber hand, rubber hand is perceived as part of own body
- Same emotional and defense responses as if youre hurting your real hand

Cross-Modal effects in attention
-Similar to attention orienting research
Visual stimuli as a cue, with audio as targeted stimulus
- Attention allocation in the visual modality can influence attention to the auditory modality
