Types of Mullein Abnormalities
Lateral or vertical fusion defects
Mullerian Agenesis
Absence of most of vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes
Present with amenorrhea
46XX, normal ovaries, pubic hair and breasts
Associated with renal abnormalities
Normal female testosterone levels, can get pregnant
Treat with vaginal dilator
Complete Androgen Insensitivity
Mutation in androgen receptor gene
Present with amenorrhea
XY karyotype with testicular gonads and male testosterone levels
Absent mullerian structures: short vagina, normal breast development
Septate Uterus
Present: Miscarriages and preterm deliveries
Uterus cannot support full fetal growth
Rx: Surgical removal of septum
Lateral Fusion Defects
Transverse vaginal septums, imperforate hymen, agenesis
Vertical Fusion Defects
bicornuate/septate uterus
