Describe the triphasic model of the human response cycle:
Desire phase:
Excitement phase: vasocongestion, increase in HR/BP
Orgasm phase: tension release, return to pre-excitement
What is hypoactive sexual desire disorder?
Just not tryna and it’s causing distress. Thirstin’ for the thirst
Female Sexual Arousal Disorder
Inability to attain/maintain vaginal lubrication and swelling associated with sexual excitement
What is female sexual interest disorder?
Basically not tryna, unreceptive to partner, no fantasies, no pleasure, or arousal or sensations in sexual activity
Female orgasmic disorder
Pretty self-explanatory
Sexual pain disorders: what are the diagnostic features? What are common subtypes? (3)
Genital pain before during after sexual intercourse that causes distress
- Vestibulodynia: premenopausal)
- Vulvar atrophy (postmenopausal decreased estrogen)
- Deep pain due to endometriosis, cysts, adhesions etc.
What is vaginismus? How do you treat it?
Involuntary contractions of perineal muscles upon penetration
What are dimensions of genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder? (4)
Difficulty having intercourse
G-P pain
fear of pain or penetration
tension of pelvic floor muscles
What populations are especially susceptible to female sexual dysfunction?
- Post-partum women: high immediately after pregnancy and begins to wane back towards pre-pregnancy levels
- Aging: Low desire and vaginal lubrication
- Cancer survivors
