Mucles Flashcards
What do cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle have in common?
Both are striated with light and dark bands and have elongated cells.
What is the difference between cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle?
Cardiac muscle is only found in the heart. Skeletal muscle is found in the limbs, trunk, head, and neck. Cardiac muscle only has one or two nuclei in a cell centrally located. Skeletal muscle has multiple nuclei lying along the periphery of the cells.
What makes up the A band?
Actin and myosin
What makes up the I band?
Only actin filaments
What is the function of the sarcoplasmic reticulum?
Stores and releases calcium that is needed for cross bridge formation
What are the three ways in which a skeletal muscle can differ from another?
1) . Types: Slow twitch, fatigue fast twitch resistant, fast twitch fatiguable
2) . Size of PCSA (physiological cross sectional area)
3) . Arrangement: parallel, unipinnate, bipinnate, multipinnate
What are the things common to all skeletal muscle tissue? …
Skeletal-voluntary muscles attached to skeletal elements and cartilage.
