refers to any type of close and long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms. It can be mutualistic, commensalistic or parasitic.
Symbiosis
Refers to the relationship that both organisms benefit from each other; organisms can both obligate, both facultative or one-obligate-one-facultative with each other
Mutualism
Refers to relationship that one benefits but the other is neither helped nor harmed; can be for phoresy (transportation), inquilinism (housing), etc
Commensalism
Is a symbiotic relationship where one organism, a parasite, lives in or on another organism, which is the host, for survival and usually at the expense of the latter.
Parasitism
A parasite living inside the host
Endoparasite
A parasite living outside the host
Ectoparasite
A parasite that requires host to complete its developmental cycle
Obligate
A parasite that can be free-living or become parasitic
Facultative
