What are the clinical features of SCC?
Rapidly growing, over weeks to months
Often painful
Keratotic - crusty and scaly
55% on the head and neck
Ulcerative, bleeding nodule
What are the characteristics of high risk SCC?
Diameter equal to or greater than 2cm
Location on the ear, lip, central face, hands, feet, genitalia
Elderly or immunosuppressed
What are the features of a basal cell carcinoma?
Pink flesh-coloured papule or nodule with surface telangiectasia
Pearly rolled edge
The lesion may have a necrotic or ulcerated centre
What are the referral criteria for basal cell carcinoma?
Urgent referral if high risk area e.g. eyelids,nose)
Routine referral if non-high risk location
What are the key features of actinic keratoses?
Initially appear as tiny red spots, which later form adherent, crusty, hyperkeratotic scale, skin-coloured/yellow
What is the first line management of actinic keratoses?
Fluorouracil cream
What is the management of keratocanthoma?
Urgent referral to Derm/urgent surgical excision as difficult to distinguish from SCC clinically
