What is the presentation of shingles?
A
Burning pain/prodromal symptoms
Erythematous macular rash
Quickly becomes vesicular

What is meant by Hutchinson’s sign?
A
Rash on the tip, side or root of the nose indicates involve of the nasociliary nerve.
This is a prognostic factor for subsequent eye inflammation and permanent corneal denervation

What is the management of shingles?
A
Antivirals within 72 hours if:
- Immunocompromised
- Non-truncal involvement
- Moderate/severe pain
- Moderate/severe rash
Consider antivirals in those aged 50+

What is the most common complication of shingles?
A
Post-herpetic neuralgia
