What is meant by a first degree tear?
A
Involvement of perineal skin or vaginal mucosa only

A
Injury to perineum involving perineal muscles but not anal sphincter

Injury to perineum with involvement of anal sphincter complex

A
Analgesia
Broad-spectrum antibiotics
Laxatives – to reduce the risk of wound dehiscence
Mode of delivery counselling and planning in subsequent pregnancies
