How does KF & Clive Wearing support the MSM?
KF - STM was damaged but LTM was fine suggesting there are separate stores
Clive Wearing - His STM was damaged but could still remember his wife and how to play music therefore showing that the multistore model has different stores
However KF and Clive were case studies.
Why is this a limitation?
Individuals may have unique experiences therefore findings of how memory works may not be generalisable to the wider population
Also its unethical to use brain damaged patients for research because you may over test them and theres a lack of informed consent
What doesn’t the MSM explain?
Doesn’t explain all the aspects of brain damaged patients. For example KF’s motorcycle accident - in his STM visual was unaffected but digit span was limited to two items therefore STM is not a unitary store.
