What are the 3 types of muscle contraction and when would you prescribe each?
Isometric - maintain and increase strength when movement is not tolerated or contraindicated (i.e. early post op, early in injury)
Eccentric - tendon remodelling, later phases of recovery
Concentric - for general strengthening
What are the muscles of the outer and inner core?
Outer: posterior oblique sling - lats, thoracodorsal fascia, glut max (c/l); anterior oblique sling - obliques, anterior abdominal fascia, adductors (c/l); lateral sling - glut med, min, adductors (c/l); deep longitudinal sling - erectors, thoracodorsal fascia, sacrotuberous ligament, BF
Inner: TA, diaphragm, multifidus, pelvic floor
What are indications for mobilization?
Pain, muscle guarding, spasm
Reversible joint hypomobility
Positional faults/subluxations
What are some possible things to educate people on?
Condition, exercises, why they should do their exercises, managing symptoms, what to avoid, alternative methods to perform activities, using splints, braces, compression wraps, potential complications and how to prevent, contraindications or precautions
