- palpate joint space for clicking, popping
- test ROM: pt open and close mouth
- move jaw laterally
- protrude and retract jaw
- test strength of temporalis muscle with teeth clenched
- some drugs can cause TMJ

A
- check alignment and symmetry
- test ROM
- forward flexion (chin to chest)
- hyperextension (look up)
- Rotation (turn side to side)

Thoracic and Lumbar Spine
A
Inspect major landmarks - C7-T1 most prominent - scapula - Iliac crests - spinal curvature palpate spinal processes and paravertbral muscles Test ROM - forward flexion and hyperextension - lateral bending (arms down) - Rotation (turn side to side)

Shoulder
A
Inspect: clavicle, coracoid process, greater tubercle, biceps groups
check ROM: ball and socket joint
- forward flexion (arms forward overhead)
- hyperextension (behind back)
- abduction (out to sides)
- adduction (to midline/body)
- internal rotation (stop sign, rotate forward and down)
- external rotation (stop sign and rotate up and back)

Elbow
A
Inspect carrying angle (slight bend) Palpate cubital fossa or elbow pit and bones for tenderness or abnormality ROM: - flexion (arm straight and curl up) - extension (extend straight forward) - supination (palm up) - pronation (palm down)

wrist
A
Inspect fingers and wrist palpate: fingers proximal to distal; wrist at radial and ulner joints; snuff box ROM - flexion: fingers/hand down - Extension: hand up - radial deviation: towards thumb - ulnar deviation: towards pinky

Inspect for symmetry ROM of ball and socket: - flexion: lift leg straight out in front - extension: leg behind body - abduction (to side) - adduction: across midline toward body - internal rotation: knee across body - external rotation: knee away from body

inspect for alignment palpate patella and joint lines ROM: - flexion: bend knee - extension: flex leg straight

- dorsiflexion: lift foot up
- plantarflexion: point toes down
- abduction: toes out
- adduction: toes in
- Inversion: bottom foot toward body
- eversion: bottom of foot away from body
