How does it apply to surrogate decision-making?

Children under the age of 18 can give assent
- Even when children are not capable of giving informed consent, thier assent to intervetions is ethically important if it is developmentally appropriate

A
Children that are deemed capable of engaging in informed consent

What is an emancipated minor?
A
An adolescent who is living apart from their parents and at least one of the following:
- Managing their own finances
- Married
- Has children
- Has served in the armed forces

What is the priority of “family wishes” in decision making for children?
A
- Highest priority = children’s best interest
- Children’s preferences
- Lowest priority = Parents’ and other family members’ interests
