MRS GREN Flashcards
1
Q
movement
A
- Animals move to find food, shelter, or a mate
- Plants move towards the light
- Plants don’t move positions but that doesn’t mean they are not living
- E.g. Cats run, flowers move towards the sunlight (sunflower)
2
Q
respiration
A
- Respiration is the release of energy from food
- This usually means oxygen > carbon dioxide
- Oxygen goes to every cell of our body which gives us energy
‘exchanging gasses’
3
Q
sensitivity
A
- Using sense organs (Eyes, ears, mouth, nose, touch)
- Animals find their way using their sense organs
- Plants don’t have sense organs but do respond to gravity and light
- Sense = respond to it
Aka. stimulus or stimuli
4
Q
growth
A
- all living things grow
*growth is the increase in size
*animals stop growing when they reach ‘adult size’
*plants grow all throughout their lives
*babies > adults, seeds > trees
5
Q
reproduction
A
- generate offspring // clone themselves
*animals lay eggs or give birth to live young
*seeds from plants grow into big plants
*fungi clone themselves
6
Q
excretion
A
- all living things produce waste
*removal of this waste is called excretion
- animals excrete through their digestive system
*plants shed leaves
7
Q
nutrition
A
- all living things need food for growth, energy and repair
- animals find their own food by eating other animals and plants (heterotroph)
- plants produce their own food by the process of photosynthesis (autotroph)
8
Q
abiotic
A
non living things
things that NEVER lived
sun, temp, water, fire, soil
9
Q
biotic
A
living things
if it has lived (dead) it is still biotic
animals, people, fossils, dinosaurs, bacteria
