Who can enter MRI Zone 1?
Public
Who can enter MRI zone 2?
All personnel (change rooms, screening rooms, reception)
Who can enter MRI zone 3?
MR personnel only (level 1 and 2). This is the control room
Who can enter MRI zone 4?
Only MR techs, trained staff + screened patients.
What is MR safe?
Object has undergone testing to demonstrate that it is safe with regard to MR environmet
What is MR conditional?
Object can be scanned under certain conditions
What is the whole body SAR limit?
SAR limit is 4 W/kg over 15 minutes for the whole body
(Should not exceed 0.5° increase for whole body)
What are three adverse effects that can be caused by time varying magnetic fields?
- peripheral nerve stimulation
- magneto phosphenes (visual disturbances)
- acoustic noise
When should a quench be performed?
Only when there is a severe danger to life or limb
Which gauss line is normally contained within the magnet room in order to reduce exposure to the fringe field?
5 gauss
What are the two forces that cause ferromagnetic materials to move when in close proximity to a static magnetic field?
rotational force and translational force

individuals who have passed minimal MR safety and can work within zone 3

Those with extensive MR safety training. (MR techs, radiologists, etc). They can enter zone 4
