MR Bone Flashcards
color of tendon on MRI
black on all sequences
magic angle phenomenon
increased signal due to orientation on short TE sequences (T1, PD, GRE)
not susceptible on T2
disappears with long TE; tendon otherwise normal
MR appearance of tenosynovitis? stenosing tenosynovitis?
fluid circumferrentially around fluid; loculated fluid collections around tendon sheath
Types of stenosing tenosynovitis
de quervain’s: wrist
ankle: flexor hallucis longus tendon at medial ankle in os trigonum syndrome
trigger finger, toe, thumb
tendinosis
myxoid degeneration from aging/overuse of tendons (not inflammation/tendonitis)
MR imaging of tendinosis
intermediate intra-substance tendon signal which is normal in size/enlarged
fluid signal should raise concern for partial tear, although both will appear similar
partial vs full tear
partial: incomplete disruption of fibers; may be thickened/thinned/intra-substance fluid
full: discontinuity of tendon; retraction of remannts
