Lumbar/Thoracic Spine Flashcards
define the columns of spine
he anterior column is comprised of the anterior two thirds of the vertebral body, including the anterior longitudinal ligament.
• The middle column consists of the posterior third of the vertebral body and the posterior longitudinal ligament.
• The posterior column represents the posterior elements and the posterior ligaments (consisting of the supraspinous and infraspinous ligaments, and the ligamentum flavum).
Chance fracture MOA
flexion distraction injury or seat belt fracture
horizontal splitting of the vertebra in the spinous process/lamina into the vertebral body anteriorly
spondylolysis
fracture of pars interarticularis; chronic stress or acute fracture
XR findings of spondylolysis
scotty dog defect on oblqiues
can lead to spondylolisthesis (subluxation of vertebral bodies)
