What are e.g. of international migration patterns?

A
  • inc. rapidly since 2014: 230M ppl lived in a country that wasn’t their place of birth
  • 1990s: mainly to world destinations (e.g. New York), now many cities in developing countries are major hubs for migration (e.g. Mumbai)
  • due to globalisation: improved transport networks allow easier travel + rise in global trading encouraged more international migrants
  • 70% international migrants are within working age

  • 2000: 740M internal migrants globally, excluding smaller distances bc hard to trace
  • urbanisation = largest form of internal migration
