Movements at synovial joints Flashcards
the angle between the two bones decreases ~(movement and example)
Flexion - EG, elbow on the upwards phase of a bicep curl.
The angle between the two bones increase
Extension - EG, knee - straightening the leg when kicking a football
the angle between the front of the leg and foot increases/decreases
Plantarflexion/dorsiflexion - EG, Ankle - taking off on jump/pulling toes towards knees during a jump
sideways movement away from the midline of the body
lateral flexion - EG, Vertebrae, bending sideways to make a save
movement of a body part across the body away from the midline
horizontal extension - eg, shoulder movement of arm forward
movement of a body part across the body horizontally towards the midline
horizontal flexion - Eg, Shoulder - movement of arm forwards in flexionwhen bowling underarm
the angle between two bones is increased beyond the normal range of motion
Hyperextension - EG, vertebrae, beding backwards to make a tennis smash
a body part is moved away from the midline
abduction - Eg, shoulder/hip while doing starjumps
a body part is moved towards the midline of the body
adduction - Eg, shoulder/hip while doing starjumps
the movement of a body part around its axis
rotation - Eg, hip, externally turning foot outwards to receive a pass
circular motion of a limb at a joint
circumduction - shoulder during butterfly stroke
functions of synovial fluid ?
lubrication for the joint, nourishes
reduces friction between bones by stopping them rubbing together
used as a shock absorber
