What is Flexion and what plane does it fall on?
Decrease angle between 2 structures. Usually in Sagittal plane.
What is Extension and what plane does it fall on?
Increase angle between two structures. Usually in Sagittal Plane.
What is Abduction and what plane does it fall on? (NON-Midline Structure)
Away from Midline. Usually in Coronal Plane.
What is ADDuction and what plane does it fall on? (NON-Midline Structure)
Towards Midline. Usually in Coronal Plane.
What is Lateral Flexion and what structures apply to this?
Bend sideways. Midline Structures only.
What is Rotation?
Medial (Internal) or Lateral (External)
- Arm towards belly or Arm away from belly
What is Circumduction?
Extremities = Combination of Flexion, Extension, ADDuction and Abduction.
- Rotation of an arm or leg in a circle.
Trunk = Combination of Flexion, Extension, Lateral Flexion and Rotation
What is Protraction?
Jaw moves forward
- underbite
What is Retraction?
Jaw moves backward
- overbite
What is Elevation?
Jaw moves upward
- Mouth closed
What is Depression?
Jaw moves downward.
- Mouth open
What is Dorsiflexion?
Toes pointing towards shin
What is Plantar Flexion?
Toes pointing away from shin
What is Inversion?
Ankles out
Ankle sprain
