Movements Flashcards
Learn about anatomical positions and movements related to joints
In the skeleton At a higher level
Superior e.g the head is superior to the chest
Towards the point of attachment of a limb to the trunk
Proximal e.g the should is proximal to the wrist
Distal
Away from the point of attachment of the limbs to the trunk. Eg the fingers are distal to the wrist
Lateral
Away from the midline
Medial
Towards the midline
Inferior
At a lower level eg the knee is inferior to the hip
Superficial
At, near or relatively close to body surface
Eg the skin is superficial to underlying structures
Deep
Towards interior of body
Eg the bone of the thigh is deep to the surrounding skeletal muscles
Cranial or cephalic
Towards the head
Eg the cranial nerves are in the head
Candal
Towards the tail
Eg fused candal vertebrae form the skeleton of the tail
Posterior
The back surface
Anterior
The front surface
