Movement Of The Foot Flashcards
Briefly describe the movement of the foot in Eversion
Foot turns outwards, raising lateral border so that the sole of the foot faces laterally. Eversion is a combination of abdudction and pronation of the foot usually accompanied by dorsiflexion of foot.
Name the muscles producing Eversion
Peroneus longus, peroneus brevis and peroneus tertius
Give 2 functional activities of which this eversion movement is important
Maintaining an upright posture, balance on uneven ground and standing on one leg.
Name the joints at which inversion occurs
Subtalar and Midtarsal joints
briefly describe the movement of the foot in inversion
The foot turns inwards, raising the medial border so the foot faces medially. A combination of Adduction and supination of the foot, often associated with plantarflexion
Name two muscles producing Inversion
Tibialis Anterior and Tibialis posterior
Give 2 functional activities in which Inversion is important
Standing on one leg, walking on uneven ground, maintains the arches of the foot
