Movement Analysis - Specific Main Movements Flashcards
Knee flexion and Knee extension
Flexion:
- quadriceps and hamstrings
- isotonic concentric contraction of the hamstrings
- hamstrings originate on the femur, inserting and pulling the tibia closer to the femur.
Extension:
- quadriceps and hamstrings
- isotonic concentric contraction of the quadriceps
- quadriceps originate on the femur, inserting and pulling the tibia down and away from the femur.
Elbow flexion and Elbow extension
Flexion:
- biceps and triceps
- isotonic concentric contraction of the biceps
- biceps originate on the humerus, inserting and pulling the radius closer to the humerus.
Extension:
- biceps and triceps
- isotonic concentric contraction of the triceps
- triceps originate on the humerus, inserting and pulling the radius down and away from the humerus.
Ankle plantar flexion and Ankle dorsi flexion
Plantar flexion:
- gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior
- isotonic concentric contraction of the gastrocnemius
- gastrocnemius originates on the femur and tibia, inserting and pulling the calcaneus upwards.
Dorsi flexion:
- gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior
- isotonic concentric contraction of the tibialis anterior
- tibialis anterior originates on the tibia, inserting and pulling the metatarsals upwards.
Hip flexion and Hip extension
Flexion:
- hip flexors and gluteals
- isotonic concentric contraction of the hip flexors
- hip flexors originate on the pelvis, inserting on and pulling the femur upward.
Extension:
- hip flexors and gluteals
- isotonic concentric contraction of the gluteals
- gluteals originate on the pelvis, inserting on and pulling the femur downward.
Hip abduction and Hip abduction
Shoulder flexion and Shoulder extension
Flexion:
- pectorals and latissimus dorsi
- isotonic concentric contraction of the pectorals
- pectorals originate on the ribs, and insert on the humerus pulling it upwards and across the body.
Extension:
- pectorals and latissimus dorsi
- isotonic concentric contraction of the latissimus dorsi
- latissimus dorsi originate on the rear of the ribs and pelvis, and insert on the humerus pulling it down to the side of the body.
Shoulder abduction and Shoulder adduction
Abduction:
- deltoids and latissimus dorsi
- isotonic concentric contraction of the deltoids
- deltoids originate on the clavicle and scapula, and insert on the humerus pulling it up and out from the side of the body.
Adduction:
- deltoids and latissimus dorsi
- isotonic concentric contraction of the latissimus dorsi
- latissimus dorsi originate on the rear of the ribs and pelvis, and insert on the humerus pulling it down to the side of the body.
