Movement analysis Flashcards
What is the definition of a plane?
A flat surface running through the body
What is the definition of an axis?
An imaginary line running through the body
How do you remember what movement is at each axis and plane?
STEF - Sagittal plane + transverse axis = Extension and flexion
FFAA - Frontal plane + frontal axis = Abduction and adduction
TLR - Transverse plane + longitudinal axis = Rotation
What movement is at the frontal plane?
Abduction and adduction (front and back)
What movement is at the sagittal plane?
Flexion and extension
What movement is at the transverse axis?
Flexion and extension
What examples of movement are in a longitudinal axis?
Twists and changes of direction (lamb donner)
What examples of movement are in a sagittal axis?
Cartwheel and diving save (sagittal sword)
What examples of movement are in a transverse axis?
Somersaults and backflips
Mechanical advantage =
Effort arm / load arm (MEL)
What are the pros/cons of mechanical advantage?
PROS
Overcome large loads with little effort
CONS
Limited speed and short ROM
What are the 4 parts of a lever?
Fulcrum
Load/mass
Effort
Lever arm
How do you remember what type of arm it is (1st class ect.)
1 2 3
F L E
How to remember a first class lever?
A seesaw (both effort and load going down)
How to remember a second class lever?
A wheelbarrow (load going down, effort going up)
How to remember a third class lever?
Fulcrum -> Effort (UP) -> load (DOWN)
