Movement 1 Flashcards
What is feedback control in the muscle?
where the intended and actual states are compared and an error signal is sent to make a correction
What does gain refer to and what can it result in?
it refers to the magnitude of the correction made in response to an error signal. high gain can result in instability if the feedback arrives after a significant delay
where do motor neurons leave the spinal cord?
the ventral root
What are the three funiculi of the spinal cord?
posterioir, lateral and anterior
what 3 types of fibres run in these funiculi?
ascencding fibres - sensory
descending fibres -motor
commissural - transvers
what is a motor unit?
a motor unit and all the fibres is innervates
what is tetanus?
when the firing rate of APs is constant and hence a continuous contraction occurs
what is the size principle?
small motor neurons will be activated first as they reach threshold first
how is sensory feedback given?
sensory neurons enter the dorsal horn and make synaptic connects with spinal interneurons and alpha motor neurons
