Auditory Flashcards
What are the ossicles?
the incus, malleus and stapes
How do the ossicles transduce sound?
the malleus is attached to the tympanic membrane which stimulates the incus to push the stapes into the oval window upon vibration
What is the cochlea?
a fluid filled chamber which without the ossicles would create sounds of 1dB from 30dB
What are methods of impedance matching?
the area of the tympanic membrane is 20:1 on the stapes +26dB
the lever action increases 2dB
buckling of ear drum increases the pressure x2 +6dB
What is the basic anatomy of the cochlea?
3 fluid cavites - scala vestibuli, scala media and scala tympani - scala media and vestibuli separated by resiners membrane and scala media and tympani are separated basilar membrane
Where does signal transduction occur in the auditory?
the organ of corti hair cells
