A massif in northeastern New York, which forms a roughly circular dome, about 160 miles in diameter and about 1 mile high - Highest peak is Mount Marcy (5343 ft) - Massive deforestation led to creation of 6.1 million acre Adirondack Park in 1902

Altai Mountains
Mountain range in Central and E Asia, where Russia, China, Mongolia, y Kazakhstan come together - Highest peak is Belukha Mountain in Russia (4440m) - Headwaters of the Ob and Irtysh rivers - Name comes from Mongolian for “Gold Mountains”

Aoraki / Mount Cook
Highest mountain in New Zealand (3724 m) - In the Southern Alps on South Island - Height reduced by 10m in 1991 after a rock fall
Black Hills
Small, isolated mountain range in western South Dakota - 5000 sq mi in area - Black Elk Peak at 7200 ft is highest peak - Home to Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, y the unfinished Crazy Horse Memorial - Unrelated Badlands National Park lies about 80 miles to the east

Blue Ridge Mountains
Mountain range stretching from Georgia to Pennsylvania - Eastern portion of Appalachians - Contains Shenandoah NP y Great Smoky Mtns NP - Named for having a blue color when seen from a distance - Highest peak is Mt Mitchell in NC (6684 ft)

Chugach Mountains
The northernmost of the several mountain ranges that make up the Pacific Coast Ranges of the western edge of North America - Located in southern Alaska, just east of Anchorage - 250 mi long, 60 mi wide - Highest peak is Mount Marcus Baker (13,094 ft)

Great Dividing Range
Australia’s largest mtn range - Stretches 3500 km from NE Queensland south to W Victoria - About 200 km wide - Highest peak is Mt Kosciuszko (2228 m)

Mountain range on E Tennessee y W North Carolina border - Part of Blue Ridge Mtns, sub-range of Appalachians - Home to GSM Nat Park, est 1934, most visited in US - Contains largest stand of old-growth forest east of the Mississippi

Hindu Kush
An 800-km-long mountain range running thru NE Afghanistan y N Pakistan - Divides the valley of the Amu Darya (the ancient Oxus) to the north from the Indus River valley to the south - Highest peak is Tirich Mir in Pakistan (7708m - highest outside the Himalayas-Karakoram range) - Known in Ancient Greek as the Caucasus Indicus or the Paropamisadae

Kangchenjunga
3rd highest peak in the world (8586 m [Everest is 8848 m]) - In Himalayas on eastern border of Nepal and India - 2nd highest of Himalayas, y highest of India - Name comes from Tibetan for “the five treasures of the high snow” - First summitted in 1955, following a route devised by Aleister Crowley in 1905

AKA Monte Bianco (“White Mountain”) in Italian - Highest mountain in the Alps (4809m), y 2nd highest in Europe - Lies on the French-Italian border, in a range called the Graian Alps - French town of Chamonix (1st Winter Olympics-1924) is at the foot - Called Rupes Alba in Latin

Logan (6000m) - Located in SE Mexico on the border between the states of Veracruz y Puebla - A dormant stratovolcano that last eruped in 1846 - 2nd most prominent volcanic peak in the world after Kilimanjaro

A large monadnock in the high-desert plain of the Navajo Nation, in NW New Mexico - The erosional remnant of the throat of a volcano - Highest point is 7,177 ft - Mentioned in many Navajo myths y legends - Navajo name Tsé Bitʼaʼí means “winged rock”
