Motor Systems Flashcards
What is the form and function of the primary motor cortex?
Contains large neurons called pyramidal cells which make pyramidal tracts to convey precise voluntary movement.
What are the motor areas?
Primary motor cortex, premotor cortex, Broca’s area and the frontal eye field.
What is the function of the premortor cortex?
Plan movements and do more complex motor tasks
What is the function of broca’s area?
Present in one hemisphere, motor speech area.
What is the function of the frontal eye field?
Controls eye movement.
What tract controls flexor muscles?
Rubrospinal tracts
What tracts maintain balance?
Reticulospinal and vestibulospinal tracts
What tracts mediate head movement in response to visual stimuli?
Tectospinal tracts
What are the 3 levels of motor systems?
Precommand level, projection level and segmental level.
