Motor System Flashcards
Parts of Motor System
- Primary Motor System
- Non primary Motor System
- Pyramidal System
- Extrapyramidal System
Primary Motor System
Consist of the precentral gyrus, the primary motor strip Voluntary movements Commands & Initiates movements
Non primary Motor Systems
1) Supplemental Motor Area 2) Premotor Area
Supplemental Motor Area
1) Voluntary movements 2) Plan and organize movements 3) Automatic & less complex movements
Premotor Area
1) Voluntary movements 2) Plan and organize movements 3) More complex & deliberate movements 4) Associated with mirror neurons
Pyramidal System
a pathway from the precentral gyrus to the spinal cord Voluntary movements
Extrapyramidal system
Outsides the scope of the pyramidal system Basal ganglia and cerebellum Modulates & modifies involuntary movements
Resting Tumors
Shaky movements while not engaging in activities Associated with basal ganglia
Intentional Tumors
Shaky movements when intending to carry out movements Associated with cerebellum
Parkinson’s Disease
Degeneration of dopamine cells in substantia nigra Tremors associated with basal ganglia
