progressive muscular paralysis due to a loss of motor neurones. NO SENSORY INVOLVEMENT.

outline the pathophysiology of MND
A
- loss of neurones, particularly anterior horn cells
- atrophy of remaining neurones
- astrocytic gliosis
- widespread gliosis of the lateral columns
- lower levels>higher levels

what are the clinical features of MND?
A
- asymmetrical paralysis which may progress to become bilateral and symmetrical
- clumsiness
-slurred speech - cramps
- swalowing problems
- weakness
- tone changes
- muscle shortening
- decreased mobility and function
- respiratory and bulbar problems
- pain
