Motor Neuron Disorder Flashcards
Sign of Upper motor neuron
Autonomic Dysreflexia: syndrome in which there is a sudden onset of excessively high blood pressure.
Sign of Lower Motor Neuron
Flaccidity, atrophy (waste away of muscles), and the lack of a deep tendon reflex all characterize a lower motor neuron lesion
Central cord syndrome
is a spinal cord injury characterized by greater upper extremity weakness than lower extremity weakness.
Brown-Sequard syndrome
loss of movement, light touch sensation, and proprioception on the same side as the injury/ loss of pain and temperature sensation on the side opposite from the injury.
Anterior cord syndrome
loss of movement, loss of pain and temperature sensation BELOW the injury;
maintains light touch and proprioception sensation.
Cauda equina syndrome
lumbar-level spinal cord injury resulting in loss of movement. This injury also affects bowel and bladder control.
